RM of Eriksdale

Situated a little over an hours drive northwest of Winnipeg along Hwy #6,the RM of Eriksdale was settled by pioneers from Sweden in 1904. Over the years other pioneers from many countries arrived to settle in the area.

With an economic base of agriculture and fishing and a growing tourism industry, Eriksdale has activities for all ages, in all seasons.

The largest town in the area is Eriksdale with a small community at Deerhorn found on Hwy #6 at the south end of the RM of West Interlake.

Winter activities include snowmobiling, cross country skiing as well as ice fishing on nearby Lake Manitoba. Winter Carnival every February with hockey games, Carnival queen, dance and ice show. Summer activitiesinclude swimming and water sports, boating and fishing at nearby Long Point Public Beach.

 

Unique attractions in the area:

Eriksdale Murals - Found on the side of the Eriksdale Recreation Centre these murals celebrate the history of this community. Other murals can be found at the Eriksdale Credit Union & inside the Memorial Community Centre.

Eriksdale Museum - Creamery museum is found at Station Lane & Railway Ave. in Eriksdale. Preserving the historyand the importance of creameries to farmers in the region the Creamery Museum became a municpal heritage site in 1995. It is the only Creamery Museum in Manitoba. Now houses some artifacts from the former St. John's Church 

Moggey's Cabin - Cabin built by the only man to escape the Stony Mountain Penitenary, Percy Moggey used this cabin to hide in the woods during his run for freedom.

 

Recreation & Community places:

Eriksdale Recreation Centre - Providing hockey, ringette & skating arena, curling and meeting areas under one roof. Catering services for meetings, weddings or any event available.

Eriksdale Memorial Community Centre – This centre is a smaller facility available to rent for meetings.

McEwen Memorial Park - Lovely roadside park to picnic in or spend the night at one of the ten campsites. Campers may utilize the ball park & horseshoe pits.Summer sports including slo-pitch and baseball take place in the park. The 15 acre rodeo/ equestrian area is adjacent to the park and is used for many of the equestrian events such as horse shows, rodeos and sales hosted during the year by various community groups.

LongPoint Beach- Just a short drive west of Eriksdale will find you at Long Point Beach where you can enjoy camping, swimming and boating activities all summer long. Great spot for ice fishing in the winter as well.
