Continued provincial funding for the Lake Winnipeg Research Consortium was announced Friday. Conservation and Water Stewardship Minister Gord Mackintosh said in a prepared statement $150,000 will be provided to the consortium. As part of the governmentâs multi-faceted efforts to restore the health of Lake Winnipeg, we understand the critical role scientific research plays in achieving this goal, said Mackintosh. Our government is pleased to provide the Lake Winnipeg Research Consortium with $150,000 to help support scientific research on the lake and provide education and outreach to raise awareness of the lake's ecology.

As crazy as it sounds, that's what it was like at Skinner's restaurant in the 1940s and '50s. It was in the original six NHL era when James Skinner Sr., owned the Skinner's restaurant on River Road. One of his sons, Jimmy Skinner, was in the early stages of his association with the Red Wings that spanned 40 years.
