ITA Welcomed Minister Flor Marcelino to our Annual General Meeting

Starting off with a scrumptious Historic dinner catered by Jason Dornbush of the Riverview Cafe & Catering [located at Lower Fort Garry NHS & open year round] the guests “enjoyed” a skill testing question on “interesting facts on the Interlake” to be able to proceed to the buffet line. A lot of laughs and hurried consultation amongst the dinners resulted in some interesting answers.

Following the meal the group moved from the restaurant into the auditorium of Lower Fort Garry NHS for presentations and the meeting portion of the event.

Minister Marcelino thanked ITA for inviting her to attend our AGM and that she was happy to be here. She brought greetings from Premier Selinger & her colleagues. After spending some time visiting with the members this evening she spoke to the most valuable resource that the ITA has as being the people that makes the region alive and real.

John Stewart of did a short presentation of the new ITA website that acts similar to an “electronic billboard”. This is another piece of the ITA’s co-op marketing program, extending our reach into Twitter and Facebook thru this site. Anyone that is interested in more information please contact the ITA office.

Our next guests were Yan & Marie-Anne Dallaire, the young couple that traveled throughout Manitoba in a whirlwind tour in the summer of 2010, sponsored by Travel Mb. and GNR Camping World. They did a wonderful presentation on their “impressions” of the Interlake, the nature beauty as well as the warm welcome from the people of the region. They spoke of highlights of their trip such as the pontoon boat ride on Lake Manitoba and watching the “tempest” storm roll in over the lake to the south and the north with the gorgeous sunset in the center. They talked of their nature trek with Dr. Who on Hecla Island, of relaxing and enjoying the rich Icelandic cultural experience in Gimli. Their last stop in July brought them to the Fort, so they now are full circle coming back here tonight.

The meeting followed with the business of the association reviewed and voted on, with the Industry Board of Directors nominated and voted on. They are Jacques Bourgeois of Oak Hammock Marsh, Jan Cote of Whytewold Emporium, Dave Hammond of Spruce Sands RV Resort, Heather Hinam of  Second Nature-Adventures in Discovery, Richard Klassen of Sandy Hook RV Resort, Chad Olafson of Narrows West Lodge & Developments, Sherry Rozecki of Leona’s Sweater & Wool Shop, Tannis Yuzwa of Country Harvest Inn.

The Municipal members appoint a representative from their council or community to their seat on the Board.
