Volunteers help save Manitoba’s wetlands with special outdoor evening

Throughout the year, DUC is continuing to hold special events in major cities across the country. On Saturday, October 5, 2013, a DUC volunteer committee from Manitoba will host an exciting, one-of-a-kind fundraising event called the Marsh Keepers Migration Dinner to celebrate three-quarters of a century of wetland conservation in Canada.

Guests are invited to gather under a tent at Oak Hammock Marsh – located on highway 220 near Stonewall – for an action-packed evening of live entertainment that includes a BBQ dinner catered by Famous Dave’s, exciting raffles, live auctions, contests and games with great prizes. The thousands of birds landing at the marsh for the evening during their annual migration will provide a picturesque backdrop.

“If you love the outdoors and want to have a fun, social evening while supporting a good cause, mark your calendars and buy your tickets for the Marsh Keepers Migration Dinner,” says  Brent Richards, DUC Manager of Fundraising and Volunteer Relations for Western Canada and The Boreal. “It’s a great opportunity for people to get together to celebrate our 75th anniversary while raising money for DUC’s wetland conservation work across Manitoba. The atmosphere will be relaxed and casual, so feel free to sport your best camo or outdoor gear!”

Wetlands are more than simply marshes and ponds. They help to clean our drinking water, our lakes and our rivers. They also deliver amazing outdoor spaces to explore, and give all kinds of wildlife a place to call home. But despite these benefits, 80 acres or 45 soccer fields of wetlands are lost every single day. The Marsh Keepers Migration Dinner is a great way to show your support and help us combat that loss.

To continue saving valuable wetlands, DUC needs the ongoing support of conservation-minded people in communities around Manitoba. Attend DUC’s Marsh Keepers Migration Dinner and see how rewarding wetland conservation can be! Tickets are available by calling Sandra at (204) 953-8210 or online at ducks.ca/event.
