Gimli Glider Museum

Ready to be Educated, Enlightened, and Entertained? Fantastic! That’s precisely the intent of the Gimli Glider Exhibit. An interactive, experiential discovery of the famous skilled landing that impacted training and operations throughout the industry.

The story is told in-depth with video and personal recollections of the 1983 event, accompanied by important artifacts. Offering a full-scale, mock-cockpit simulator provides an experience of an eight-mile approach to the runway piloting a disabled airliner. Learn to Sail at the Gimli Yacht Club

The Sail Canada CANSail Program is designed to provide a solid introduction to sailing. The program is taught by certified Sail Canada instructors who have life-saving and first aid certificates. Emphasis is on safety, fun, and a great learning experience. Visit them on June 27, 2022, for their Save the Lake Fish Fry! Organized by the Gimli Yacht Club and the Kiwanis Club of Gimli & District. New Iceland Heritage Museum

The New Iceland Heritage Museum (NIHM) features exhibits at two sites in Gimli MB and greets visitors from around the world year-round, seven days a week, at its main multi-media location at #108 94-1st Avenue, Gimli in The Waterfront Centre. Learn more.

Lake Winnipeg Visitor Centre

Open seasonally, the Lake Winnipeg Visitor Centre (LWVC) is located at Gimli Harbour on Centre Street. The LWVC pays tribute to the fishing industry and interprets the natural history of Lake Winnipeg. Learn more.

Gimli International Film Festival (July 20-24)

The Gimli International Film Festival (GIFF) is Manitoba’s premier film festival and the largest rural film festival in all of Canada. Since 2001, GFF has welcomed thousands to the shores of Lake Winnipeg for its various film screenings of local, national, and international feature films, documentaries, short films, and experimental media; not to mention the festival’s premiere event – the Beach Screenings which take place every night of the five-day festival and have drawn people from all over the world to take in one of Manitoba’s most unique summer experiences. Icelandic Festival of Manitoba (July 29-Aug 1)

The Icelandic Festival of Manitoba “Islendingadagurinn” as far as we have been able to determine, is the second oldest continuous ethnic festival in North America. Only an Irish festival held annually in Montreal is a few years older. The first Icelandic festival in North America was held in Milwaukee in 1874. The first Icelandic festival in Manitoba was held in Winnipeg in 1890; was held there annually until 1931, and since 1932 has been held in Gimli.
