Saturday August 5 – Family Fun Day

Family Fun Day aboard the Prairie Dog Central is a firm passenger favourite. With something for everyone make sure you book early as this event sells out fast! The Audayo Brothers will entertain with live music and Gregoire the Astonisher will make balloon animals for all of the children as we make our way to Grosse Isle. During the stopover enjoy more live music and grab a front row seat in preparation for Gregoire the Astonisher’s fully interactive 45-minute magic show. Before we head back to the city, visit the volunteers in the Heritage House, East Rosser School and take a moment in the Church. Bring along your own home packed picnic basket or delight in the baked pies, pastries, hot dogs and smokies freshly prepared by the locals.

Sunday August 6 – Mystical Magic Train

Join us onboard as we head to the rural community of Grosse Isle. Awaiting our arrival is magician Gregoire the Astonisher. Pick up a freshly prepared hotdog or smokie along with baked goods or ice cream and grab your front row seat as we await the show. Gregoire the Astonisher’s 45 minute fun and fully interactive display will have you marvelling in the trickery and sleight of hand. Before we depart and head back to the city make sure you take a walk through the beautifully restored buildings making up the Heritage Village.

Monday August 7 – Civic Holiday Celebration

Steam Locomotive No. 3 leads the way this holiday Monday! Enjoy a leisurely trip to the rural community of Grosse Isle aboard our beautifully restored vintage coaches. Sit back and relax as our onboard musicians make their way through the train singing their hearts out. During the stopover you can walk through the steam locomotive as the engineer and fireman prepare for the return trip. A vast array of home baking and freshly prepared hotdogs and smokies are available to purchase or you can bring along your own picnic. Finally, stroll though the Heritage Village as the volunteers demonstrate items from years past. It’s a wonderful way to spend this holiday.

Saturday August 12 – Tales from the Homestead

Sit back, relax and listen as our onboard historian and published author, as he recounts stories of his family’s journey to Manitoba and their farming life throughout the generations. During the stopover at Grosse Isle join our historian as he talks through excerpts of his published book ‘of Pork and Potatoes’. He recounts memories with poems and old photographs. Bring along your own picnic or indulge in a freshly prepared hotdog or smokie, leaving space for a baked treat or ice cream. Take a stroll through the beautifully restored heritage buildings before we head back to the city. Don’t miss out on this extremely popular event, there is something for everyone today!

Sunday August 13 – Great Train Robbery (Cowboys ‘n Gals)

We are hearing rumours that those infuriating horseback robbers are on the loose and considering their next ambush. Remain vigilant as we make every effort to avoid this gang of thieves. We are hoping for an uninterrupted trip to Grosse Isle but we must stay alert and report any suspicious activity. We never know what we may encounter during this hilarious, entertaining and interactive trip. On arrival pick up a freshly prepared hotdog or smokie or enjoy your home prepared lunch but be sure to stop by for some baked goodies or an ice cream cone. Take a stroll through the beautifully restored Heritage House, East Rosser School and take a moment in the Church. Find your seat and get ready to enjoy some live music performed by the Audayo Brothers.

Thursday August 17 – Heritage Village Picnic

This weekday picnic is ideal for larger groups and family gatherings. Join us for a slow-paced trip from Inkster Junction Station to the beautiful community of Grosse Isle, visit with family and friends as we make our way up the line. On arrival the volunteers will serve freshly prepared sandwiches, Caesar salad, chips and small dessert accompanied by a drink. Take time to stroll through the 1886 Heritage House, the 1 room schoolhouse and the Grosse Isle United Church before we make our way back to the city.

Join us as we take a peaceful ride to Grosse Isle where the Prairie Dog Central’s favourite magician, Gregoire the Astonisher, will greet us. Find a front row seat as Patrick Gregoire performs a 45-minute fun and interactive magic show. Bring along your home packed lunch or savour the home baking, hotdogs and smokies freshly prepared for your arrival. Finally take a wander through the beautifully restored Heritage Village buildings before we hop back onboard for the return trip

Saturday August 26 – Planes, Trains and Automobiles

Arrive early so you can join us and as we appreciate the time and workmanship that has been invested in the restoration and maintenance of the model airplanes and vintage vehicles on display at Inkster Junction Station. As we make our way to Grosse Isle, look out for the vintage vehicles as they follow us up the track, ready to join us during the stopover. Walk through our diesel locomotive, take a stroll through the 1886 homestead, the 1 room schoolhouse and the church before we head back to the city. This is a great way to spend your Saturday!

Sunday August 27 – Great Train Robbery (Cowboys ‘n Girls)

We are creeping up the track hoping to throw the troublesome robbers of the scent. Take part in an old fashioned sing-song with our onboard entertainment as we make our way to the rural community of Grosse Isle. We are hoping for an uninterrupted ride but we have been advised that there is a chance of a hold up and the cowboys and gals on horseback have been spotted looking for their next haul. On arrival pick up a freshly prepared smokie or hotdog, enjoy some baking and an ice cream before taking a stroll through the wonderfully restored Heritage Village. During the return trip appreciate more live music as we wrap up this fun filled and fully interactive trip.
