15th Edition Celebration
Every March, the Gimli Ice Festival transforms the frozen surface of Lake Winnipeg and the lively waterfront of Gimli into a winter playground packed with thrilling activities and community spirit.
Celebrating its 15th anniversary in 2026 (March 6–8), this festival offers something for everyone, from high-speed “Fire on Ice” car racing and motorcycle ice demos to family-friendly contests like the Frozen Fish Toss and hockey skills competitions. Whether you’re drawn by heart-pounding races on the ice or quirky, laugh-out-loud challenges, Gimli comes alive with energy and excitement in a way that only a true Manitoba winter can deliver.
Gimli Ice Festival is a celebration of arts, culture, and local heritage. Visitors can take part in inspiring experiences like winter screenings, Viking life reenactments, hands-on crafting at local studios, festive mural creations, and savoury treats like bannock and maple taffy around an open fire.
With vendors, live entertainment, and special exhibitions, there’s a rich blend of creative and cultural attractions that keep the whole family engaged throughout the weekend.
With over 100 dedicated volunteers helping to run events and a warm, welcoming atmosphere that honours the region’s heritage, this celebration has grown into one of the Interlake’s must-see seasonal events. Whether you’re looking for thrilling winter fun or a chance to explore the charm of Gimli on the shores of Lake Winnipeg, mark your calendar for March; winter has never looked this inviting!
