A store is just a store, unless it is Tergesen’s general store in Gimli! As the oldest operating general store in Manitoba and an excellent example of a rural community store, Tergesen’s is an institution, a must see for visitors to the Interlake. Built in 1898 on the corner of First Ave & Centre St, now owned and operated by the fourth generation of the Tergesen family. A shopping Mecca for visitors looking for a unique piece of Gimli, a wide range of books (especially on Icelandic Culture and the Interlake area/Manitoba area). Family clothing, beach wear, along with a varied offering of gift ware. With many original fixtures, polished hardwood floors and punched tin siding it retains the old time look inside and out. Became one of the first “Century Businesses” recognized by the Manitoba Government in 2012.
